First was the human-like outstretched figure, now the ‘podium.’ It is forty-eight slabs of plywood laminated (glued) together in steps and sanded to make smooth angles, its top hollowed out to hold liquid. By itself the wooden ‘torso’ balanced on the floor, ‘hip’ notwithstanding. The original pool of lead was replaced with white marble, the piece now known as “Aphrodite.” While modeling “Instrumental Machine’s” third of my plaster models for the foundry to cast into bronze, (the whale-like shape at the bottom), I wondered if it might fit my wooden form’s cavity. There it found its permanent home, with its musical-like note reaching for the sky.
